What the resurrection means to us today

  1. Proof  of Christ - John 20:30-31

1. His own claims – Christ is who He said He was. His words are true. We can trust all of His promises.                        .

Mt 27:63 – chief priests testify of His claim to rise again

Mk 8: 31; 9: 31-32?; 10: 34

Luke 9:22; Luke 13:33; Luke 24:46 

Luke 24:6-7- women at tomb reminded of His words

John 2:19 – The temple will be rebuilt in 3 days

2. OT prophecies – He is the One God promised so we do not need to look for another. (Gen 22, Ps 16:8-11, Psalm 22 Is 52, Jonah 1:7, 2:10)

Death of Messiah -Ps 16:9–11; Ps 22; Ps 69; Is. 52:14–53:12; Zech. 12:10; 13:7

Resurrection of Messiah– Psalm 16:10; Ps 22; Is 53:10b: Is 53:11a; 2Tim 2:8

 

  1. Sacrifice acceptance by God

            Dedication of temple 2 Chr 7:1-3

2. John 17: 1-5 Jesus prays that Father will glorify the Son.

3. Acceptance of Christ’s sin bearing sacrifice - The work is finished. There is no need for animal sacrifices today – Heb 9: 26-28, 10:11-14, 18

 

  1. He is the firstfruits – a guarantee of more to come

 

Before long, the world will not see me  anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. John 14:19      also see John 5:25

  1. Jesus is alive today

1. He is seated at the right hand of the Father as our high priest, interceding on our  

            behalf – Acts 3:21        Heb 7:25          Heb 10:12

2. He changes lives - He changed the lives of those close to Him: ex. Acts 8 – Saul

   He still does today              

3. He is a source of comfort - He is with us always to the end of the age Mt 28

 

  1. Jesus will come again

Christ humbled Himself. God has exalted Him Phil 2:8-11

    1. To claim those who belong to Him 1The 4:16-17

2. To judge Mt 25:31-46; 2 The 1:7-10

3.      To establish His earthly kingdom

Heb 9:27-28 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
