New Testament: Overview of the Gospel Era
I. Introduction: The birth of Christ splits history like a thunderbolt. Everything before His birth we call B.C. Every thing after, we call A.D., anon Domini, in the year of our Lord.
His story, predicted throughout the Old Testament, is told in the four Gospels: Matthew, Luke, Mark, and John. While the four Gospels are generally chronological, they are actually four separate portraits of Christ’s life. The Gospels place very little emphasis on His early life and great emphasis on the last week of His life.
II. Story line Summary of the Gospel Era: Jesus comes in fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies of a savior and offers salvation and the true kingdom of God. While some accept Him, most reject Him, and He is crucified, buried, and resurrected.
