Seven Truths of Our Christian Faith 1. God created the heavens and the earth. In the beginning, there was darkness and void. On the first day He created light. God’s own glory gave light into world. God created the world in 6 days out of nothing but the power of His spoken word. Creation completed, God rested the seventh day.
2. The Bible is God’s word. His word has been written down, preserved through all these many years, translated into our own language, and made available to us. It is finished and complete. It is our privilege to know God through His word.
3. Adam and Eve sinned, and since their day the whole world has been under the curse of sin and evil. In the OT, sin was atoned for by animal sacrifices. God covered Adam and Eve with clothing made out of animal skins. Later in the temple, daily and yearly sacrifices were continually offered for sin.
4. When the fullness of time came, God humbled Himself and took on the form of a man. He was the baby in the manger. Immanuel means “God with us”. Jesus grew from a baby into a man. He grew in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and men. Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. John heard a voice from heaven say, “This is My Son, whom I love, in whom I am well pleased.” John also saw the Holy Spirit descend on Him in the form of a dove. We call the Father, Son and Holy Spirit the “Trinity” and recognize the Trinity as God in three persons.
5. Jesus willingly died on the cross. He did it out of love for us, and in obedience to the Father. He is the “Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world”, because His death fulfilled the penalty for sin for everyone who believes in His name. And all who acknowledge their sin and look to Jesus as their Savior will gain eternal life.
6. After He died on the cross, Jesus was buried. Three days later, He was raised from the dead. He showed Himself alive to many witnesses. He instructed the apostles to go out baptize believers in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
7. After 40 days, Jesus ascended in to heaven. He waits there now, interceding for us. He is seated at the right hand of the Father until the time comes for Him to return to earth to put an end to evil and restore all things.
